Young Harris College presents Medallion Award to Jon Anderson

by Steve Esser

Young Harris, GA (05/08/2026) — Young Harris College Trustee Jon Anderson has been recognized with the College's highest award, the YHC Medallion. Anderson was honored at a recent Board of Trustees meeting and was granted Lifetime Trustee status at the April meeting.

Anderson graduated from YHC in 1965 and was elected to the Board of Trustees in 1999. He has served with distinction for the past 27 years on several committees, including the Executive, Finance, Planned Giving, and Wills and Legacies Committees. He chaired the Properties Committee for 15 years, 2007 - 2022, providing exceptional leadership during a time of construction and renovation.

Anderson was an integral player in the planning and construction of YHC's Harp Recreation and Commencement Center and other campus facilities, including Enotah Hall, the Rollins Campus Center, the apartment complex for upperclassmen, a 12-court tennis complex, as well as the renovation of several existing campus buildings. As Properties Committee Chair, Mr. Anderson oversaw the college's building program and expansion as YHC transitioned from a two-year college to a four-year college.

"Jon is a generous supporter of the College and has given unselfishly of his time, talents, business acumen, and financial resources to move his beloved alma mater to the next level of excellence," said Dr. John Wells, YHC President. "YHC is proud to award Jon the Medallion for his extraordinary work and support of the College and his service as a member of our Board of Trustees," Wells added.

And the Anderson legacy continues at YHC, as Anderson's son, Matt, graduated from YHC in 2003, and Anderson's granddaughter, Mary Grace, graduated in 2022. A second granddaughter is a current freshman at YHC. So, Anderson has passed on his love for YHC to his family as well.
