YHC students raise money for women's organization in Union County

by Steve Esser

Young Harris, GA (01/07/2026) — Students in the Lettie Pate Whitehead scholarship donated more than $500 to the Women's Enrichment Center Family Resources in Blairsville.

Working on fundraisers during the fall semester, the 12 students were able to raise $550, which was presented to WEC in December. The WEC, a ministry of the Appalachian Area Crisis Pregnancy Center, helps pregnant women in the region, providing free and confidential services.

"WEC works to help provide young expectant mothers with resources, counsel, and assistance," said Leeah Hughes, Academic Affairs and adviser to the Lettie Pate Whitehead scholars. "This is a great charity for the students to work to support, and I can't thank everyone enough who donated to this cause."

The students who volunteered were: Jamisen Bail, Regan Bartenfeld, Stacy Castillo, Maya Cramer, Abigail Goss, Summer Hernandez, Haley Kelley, Morgan Koshko, Percy Reid, Gabrielle Smith, Rhylie Turner, and Jeniffer Zelaya.

"We really appreciate the efforts of these students to help our center," said Becky Dyer, executive director for the WEC. "Agencies like ours depend on the surrounding area to help us deliver our goods and services to those who need it."
