Young Harris College Presents Fine Arts Events for September

Young Harris, GA (09/04/2024) — Young Harris College invites the community to attend fine arts events in September. All events will take place on the YHC campus.

Enjoy the following events:

Opening Reception for Ted Whisenhunt's Art Exhibition "Watermarks" - Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. The exhibit will be at the Campus Gate Art Gallery. Whisenhunt celebrates the rivers and streams of Southern Appalachia, highlighting individuals who interpret and decode the often-overlooked visual cues embedded in these lotic systems. This collection of work will expose cultural connections and environmental issues facing these streams today while celebrating individuals and communities who endeavor to protect these invaluable resources that many take for granted. The exhibition will run until Sept. 26, and is free and open to the public.

"Songs Among the Stars" in the O. Wayne Rollins Planetarium - Saturday, Sept. 28 at 11 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12 p.m., and 12:30 p.m. The YHC Chamber Choir will be performing "Songs Among the Stars" in the O. Wayne Rollins Planetarium. Presented as an encore to the popular Planetarium concert last season, this 25-minute concert will include Sir Aurthur Sullivan's The Long Day Closes, and an acapella arrangement of Vincent (Starry, Starry Night) by Don McLean. Multiple times are being offered due to limited seating. Tickets are available at the door. This event is free and open to the public.

Elephant & Piggie's "WE ARE IN A PLAY!" - Saturday, Sept. 28 at 2 p.m. Theatre Young Harris and the Fred Register Endowment for Children's Theatre at Young Harris College present Elephant & Piggie's "WE ARE IN A PLAY!" by Mo Willems and Deborah Wicks La Puman. Get ready for a musical experience, ripped from the pages of Mo Willems' beloved, award-winning, best-selling children's books. Gerald and Piggie take to the stage in a rollicking adventure filled with beloved characters and lively songs. It's the perfect way to introduce young people to theatre. This event is free and open to the public. Reservations are available for school groups - kindergarten through fifth grade - however, only for the shows on Sept. 25-27. Pops on the Patio - Saturday, Sept. 28 at 5:30 p.m. The community is invited to gather with lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the YHC Concert Band's annual outdoor concert Pops on the Patio - this year the concert will feature familiar symphonic and popular music from mass media. This event is free and open to the public.
