YHC Stocking Slam event benefits Campus Cupboard
Young Harris, GA (01/05/2026) — Santa made a brief stop during his Christmas preparations at Young Harris College for the annual Stocking Slam.
Highlighted by a women's and men's basketball game at the YHC HARP Recreation Center, Stocking Slam helps raise funds for the College's Campus Cupboard Food Pantry - a new initiative on the YHC campus that offers free food to the surrounding areas and students alike.
A packed house was entertained as both the women's and men's teams won their matchups. The women defeated Southern Wesleyan 90-57, while the men won their matchup with Southern Wesleyan, setting a record for highest offensive output of the season, 102-77, and setting a program record with 33 assists.
It was a good night for fund-raising as well, with more than $6,000 raised. The night included photos with Santa, and the Rock Wall was open for any avid climbers.
"We want to thank all our sponsors, especially Benchmark Physical Therapy of Young Harris, who have spearheaded the event over the last 4 years, and Brittany Harkins and the staff at STG Marketing, who provide T-shirts," said Rev. Adam Daniels, YHC Campus Chaplain. "We couldn't be as successful with events like this without our sponsors helping us out."
If you missed Stocking Slam, there is still time to donate. YHC is having a raffle for a blanket, donated by Gene Boyde, at STG Marketing. The tickets are $10 apiece. Email Rev. Daniels for more information at adaniels@yhc.edu.
"Reaching $5,000 in donations helps fund the Campus Cupboard Food Pantry for another year," Daniels said. Located on campus, in the Hesed House on Duckworth Street, the Cupboard is open to students throughout the semester. Monthly distribution dates are scheduled for the local community. The Campus Cupboard served 195 individuals, both campus and community members, in its first month - September.
The Campus Cupboard is a joint effort of YHC Religious Life, Sharp Memorial UMC, and the Food Bank of Northeast GA.
