Friend of the Arts Donates Steinway Boston Piano to Young Harris College
Young Harris, GA (11/10/2023) — Friend of the Arts Donates Steinway Boston Piano to Young Harris College
YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - Young Harris College was the fortunate recipient of a piano from donor Jim Steed Tuesday, October 31, as part of the Young Harris College All-Steinway Initiative.
The College's All-Steinway Initiative is working to put Steinway instruments in all of its classrooms and performance spaces. Steed donated a Steinway Boston Upright Piano for students to practice with on their academic path to becoming musicians.
"This wonderful Steinway Boston Upright Piano is the first step in Young Harris College becoming an All-Steinway School," Dean of the Division of Fine Arts Dr. Keith DeFoor said. "The Steinway Boston will provide excellent support for YHC students for generations to come. We look forward to fulfilling the All-Steinway Initiative for the benefit of our students, the College, and our community".
Steed gave the piano in honor of his late wife, Gayle Steed, who passed away three years ago. With her birthday on October 31, Steed wanted to donate the piano in her name on the same day.
"This sentimental and thoughtful gift will not go unnoticed by faculty and students," Dr. Drew Van Horn, Young Harris College President said. "They are already in the classroom playing the instrument. The College is very thankful for Mr. Steed and his generous donation. And we hope he and many others will come to the College to hear our many talented music students make use of this gift."
Isaiah Willock, class of 2025, agreed: "The Department of Music is very grateful to have such a nice piano at our school. Equipment like this is hard to come by, we hope this is one of many Steinways to be at YHC."
